Army officer killed in road mishap

Chitwan, March 7:

An army officer died and two personnel were injured when a jeep bound for Kathmandu from Butwal met with an accident at Darechowk VDC-9 on the Prithvi Highway this morning.

According to DSP Ramadhar Yadav of the Armed Police Force at Kurintar, Colonel Shankar Lamichhane of Ranodeep Battalion, Butwal, died on the spot after the jeep skidded off the road and plunged into the Trishuli river. Army constables Shankar Lamichhane and Narayan Poudel sustained injuries.

Body of Lamichhane was found inside the ill-fated vehicle. The injured are getting treatment at Bharatpur Medical College. Meanwhile, seven police personnel were hurt when a police van met with an accident at Rambhapur of Bardiya today. The vehicle carrying a police patrol was escorting the stranded vehicles from Bhalubang to Mahendranagar. According to the Bardiya District Police Office, the injured personnel are receiving treatment at Kohalpur Teaching Hospital.
