Army’s 21-gun salute to king draws flak

Kathmandu, April 26:

Nepali Congress lawmaker Binaya Dhwaj Chanda today said that the state honour provided by the government to king Gyanendra during his visit to Dakshinkali was wrong.

“Playing national anthem in honour of the king, who has been rejected by the people and the parliament, was a serious mistake on the part of the government. The action should be protested,” he said while addressing at programme at Sanchar Samuha Nepal today.

“Concerned ministry must be held directly responsible for this, but the eight parties are also to be blamed,” he said.

He also stressed on the need for continued cooperation among the eight political parties.

Maoist leader Nanda Kishor Pun ‘Pasang’ said, “The ties between the Seven-Party Alliance and the Maoists should be reviewed, as the government has failed to hold constituent assembly polls on the agreed date.” “The unity between the SPA and the Maoist is in dire straits now,” he said.

“CA polls were the basis for the alliance between the SPA and the Maoists. Now there is a need to review the alliance and build a new foundation for cooperation to achieve political objectives,” he said.
