Arrest of MJF cadres sparks protest

Rautahat, July 17:

The Rautahat district administration office (DAO) yesterday arrested nine activists of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF), including its central treasurer Amar Yadav, district president Ganesh Yadav, district secretary Raghoroy Yadav, Gaurishanker Yadav, Ramashankar Patel and MJF Youth Front’s district president Nandkishore Sah under the Public Offence Act.

They were arrested for creating pandemonium at the DAO and padlocking its treasury and

accounts department.

They were also charged for disrupting a meeting of DAO officials, district leaders of the political parties and concerned sides as they were discussing the grant allotment modalities.

Chief district officer (CDO) Durga Prasad Bhandari said that the nine were arrested when they barged into the DAO, vandalised the office and misbehaved staffs and officials.

Meanwhile, MJF cadres are on the warpath in Gaur, demanding an unconditional release of their nine friends.

Their protest for the same purpose has shut Gaur, Kahariya and Garuda bazaars, while traffic along the Gaur-Chandranigahpur road section remained paralysed. MJF cadres have also staged protests at various chowks.
