Asian Paints, United Breweries resume work

Hetauda, April 5:

Asian Paints, a multinational company (MNC), resumed its operation from today. The workers had last Monday shut the company demanding that their demands be fulfilled.

Operations resumed after the company management agreed to make permanent a dozen temporary workers and hold discussions in this regard, said Min Bahadur Thapa, the company’s assistant manager. The industry, which was set up in 1986 with the production capacity of 10 tonnes of colour paints daily, has 50 employees.

Similarly, the United Breweries Company P Ltd, a joint venture company with India, is also resuming operations from tomorrow. The factory, which produced beer, has remained closed since November 14. The local Maoist leader and the industry management sorted out differences in a meeting at a secret location, a source close to the industry said.

The brewery was established here 41 years ago.

Likewise, Colgate Palmolive, another MNC, is preparing to move out of the country citing security reasons. Meanwhile, the Unilever, a MNC, has also extensively cut its production after obstruction on exports to India.
