Attack sparks Birgunj shutdown

Birgunj, August 6:

Businessmen and workers shut down bazaars in Birgunj town today to protest the attack on Om Bastralaya’s proprietor Niraj Agrawal and the murder of his employee Jang Bahadur Thakur by armed criminals yesterday evening.

A fracas ensued when agitators tried to forcibly close down shops in the Maisthan market. Half a dozen people were injured in the clash between the agitators and shop owners.

Police have arrested one Chapkaiyya resident, Manzoor Alalm, on the suspicion of involvement in the firing at Om Bastralaya. The Birgunj Chambers of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) has expressed concern about the increasing attacks on businessmen. The BCCI said the security arrangements in the town have become lax and urged the administration to take steps to improve the situation. It also flayed the murder of shop employee Thakur and attack on Niraj Agrawal.
