Aussie tourist, Nepali guide severely injured in rhino attack in CNP

CHITWAN: An Australian tourist and his guide were severely injured in a rhinoceros attack in Chitwan National Park (CNP) on Monday.

According to CNP Chief Conservation Officer Bed Kumar Dhakal, Australian citizen William Peter (18) and his local guide Jitu Mahato (50) were hurt in the attack by a rhinoceros this afternoon.

It has been learnt that the duo were taking a jungle walk near Dudhaura, in the eastern part of the CNP, when suddenly a rhinoceros charged and injured both of them.

The CNP officials, security forces, hotel entrepreneurs and other guides had reached the site to rescue them.

According to Chitwan District Police Office, the injured tourist and guide were airlifted to Mediciti Hospital in Kathmandu for the treatment.

Of the injured, the foreigner tourist is said to be in critical condition.
