Bhattarai urges leaders to pass amendment bill

Hetauda, December 10

Naya Shakti Party Nepal Coordinator Baburam Bhattarai today said his party supported the constitution amendment bill registered at the Parliament and urged political parties to endorse it.

Addressing a press conference organised by Press Society Makawanpur in Hetauda, Bhattarai said, “As the statute has many provisions that require revision, the parties should support amendment to set those provisions right.”

Bhattarai said, “Political parties call themselves democratic, but they have unfortunately resorted to spoiling politics through communal violence,” he said. “Federalism, republicanism and secularism are national agendas and we’ve paid a huge price for achieving them. Now that we’re indulging ourselves in blame game, the same has given an excuse for foreign elements to meddle in our internal affairs,” he said, calling on the political parties to protect the political gains achieved so far.

On the issue of election, the former prime minister suggested that the government conduct all three levels of elections simultaneously. He further reiterated that solution to the present political stalemate be sought from the Parliament rather than from the streets and elsewhere.
