Bailey bridge reinstalled over Sunkoshi

Gaighat, January 7

Direct transportation has started between Khotang and Gaighat of Udayapur with the installation of a bailey bridge over the Sunkoshi River on the Gaighat-Diktel road section recently.

The bridge joins Lichkiramche of Khotang with Phoksingtar of Aanptar VDC in Udayapur. The temporary bridge was installed instead of constructing a concrete bridge.

The bridge will be removed during the rainy season. The bridge was earlier removed after the water level in the river rose during monsoon.

Meanwhile, the road, which is said to be the shortest link to the Tarai, has brought relief to both the districts. “With the bridge installed, it’s become very easy for us to transport vegetables and other daily necessities to the two districts,” said Triyuga Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairman Gajendra Bhagat.

Though a contractor was selected for the construction of a concrete bridge over the river last year, the project has not yet started.
