Bandh against lease of govt land in Kanchanpur

Dhangadi, January 29

Life was affected in Kanchanpur today due to an indefinite general strike enforced by All Nepal National Free Students Union seeking removal of illegal structures built on the land of Town Development Committee in Mahendranagar.

While schools, marketplaces, businesses and government offices couldn’t run as usual, vehicles stayed off the road due to the indefinite bandh starting today.

To enforce the bandh, students aligned to the union had taken to the streets from early morning.

ANNFSU Kanchanpur Chairperson Om Basnet said they were forced to resort to the bandh. “We’ve been launching a series of protests against years of illegal lease of government land, but as the concerned side didn’t take any interest in addressing our concerns, we had to resort to  strike,” Basnet said.

The union has demanded that the lease contracts be scrapped.
