Bandh cripples life in Lumbini
Rupandehi, February 20:
Normal life in the districts of Lumbini zone was affected today due to a bandh called by the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN).
Transport services, educational institutions, shops, factories and other business centres remained closed in Butwal. Vehicles remained off the Mahendra and Siddhartha highways. Only a few cycles and rickshaws were seen on the city streets. Supporters of the bandh vandalised a motorcycle at Milan Chowk during a demonstration. A vehicle used for the publicity of information and technology fair was also seized for about half-an-hour.
Speaking at a corner meeting organised in Butwal, central president of the NEFIN, Pasang Sherpa, said their movement would continue till their demands for a federal system of governance and proportionate electoral system were met. The bandh also affected normal life in Bhairahawa, Lumbini and Parasi.
