Bandh persists

Phidim: Normal life in Panchthar, Taplejung and Ilam districts was adversely affected on Friday as well due to the bandh enforced by the Unified CPN-Maoist. The Maoists have been forcing a Taplejung bandh since December 27, demanding martyr status for deceased cadres Lagamdhoj Limbu, Laxmi Wanem and Rajendra Wanem, relief to the bereaved families and action against the culprits. The trio was killed by an unidentified gang. The party has also sought funds to meet the treatment expenses of three of their cadres who were injured in police action in Taplejung on January 4 and the release of 12 cadres, who were detained on the same day. Ilam faced the bandh only today. No vehicle of long and short routes plied in the three districts. Market places, financial and education institutions also remained shut due to the bandh.
