Banke anti-UML protester succumbs to injuries

KATHMANDU: A man who was injured in a clash with police while protesting CPN-UML's Mechi-Mahakali Campaign in Nepalgunj of Banke died in the course of treatment on Saturday.

The 65-year-old Jamim Bhat was undergoing treatment at the Lord Buddha Medical College in Nepalgunj.

He had sustained injuries during the clash with security personnel on Tuesday.

The United Democratic Madhesi Front had staged a demonstration near the UML's programme venue and Bhat was also taking part in the same.

Issuing a press statement today, Federal Socialist Forum-Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav demanded that Bhat be declared a martyr and his family be provided with due compensation.

Yadav also demanded an independent probe into the case.
