Banke villages inundated

Nepalgunj, July 19:
Hundreds of locals have been displaced following inundation of villages on both sides of the Rapti river. Incessant rainfall for two days and blockade of smooth flow of water through the Laxmanpur dam has drowned seven villages of Holiya, Gangapur, Fattehpur VDCs in Banke district. Eighteen houses were collapsed in Holiya VDC alone. The extent of damage could not be assessed yet. DSP at the Banke police office, Ram Kripal Shah, said Indian authoirities opened a few gates of the Laxmanpur dam today. thereby letting the water level to go down.
