KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 7

Police have arrested a 39-year-old man with a loaded homemade firearm, suspected gunpowder and related materials in Nijgadh Municipality-11 of Bara district.

According to the District Police Office, Bara, a team from the Area Police Office, Nijgadh, arrested Shamsher Rumba at around 10:45 am on Tuesday near a football ground in the western section of Ratanpur.

Police said they recovered one loaded homemade firearm from Rumba during the operation.

Officers also seized around 80 grams of a substance suspected to be gunpowder stored in a white plastic container, along with firecracker material allegedly used in making gunpowder.

In addition, police recovered a trap made from bamboo, plastic rope and a rubber tube, according to the district police office.

A case has been filed against Rumba under the Arms and Ammunition Act.

Police Inspector Bimal Khatiwada of the District Police Office, Bara, said the Bara District Court has granted a five-day remand to allow further investigation into the case.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
