KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 14

The most auspicious time for Bhai Tika this year has been set for 11:39 AM on Thursday, Kartik 6 (October 23). The tika, however, may be offered anytime during the midday period, according to astrologers.

According to National Calendar Determination Committee chairperson Prof. Shambhu Prasad Dhakal, while the tika can be offered anytime during the midday period, those seeking an auspicious time are advised to follow the specific timing that falls under the Dhanur Lagna, Kanya Navamsha, Abhijit Yoga, and Vijay Muhurat.

This year, the five-day Tihar festival, also known as Yama Panchak, begins on Kartik 1 (October 18) with Yamadeep Daan. Kaag Tihar falls on Kartik 2, Kukur Tihar and Laxmi Puja on Kartik 3, and Gai, Govardhan, and Mha Puja on Kartik 5, which also marks the start of Nepal Sambat 1146.

As per traditional scriptures, Bhai Tika-or Bhaitika, also called Kija Puja among the Newar community-will be observed on Kartik 6.

The tika can be offered during the midday period on that day, following religious custom.
