Bhairahawa town waterlogged

BHAIRAHAWA: The continuous downpour since last night has submerged half-a-dozen government offices in Bhairahawa of Rupandehi district.

The Tarai town of Siddharthanagar Municipality has been waterlogged as authorities failed to clear the outlets in time. The rainwater has flooded the Immigration Office, Tourism Office, Nepal Telecom and National Trading Limited. Houses in Wards No 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 12 and 13 of the municipality have been inundated. Some of the houses have also been damaged by the floods.

Following the situation, staffers and service seekers

are facing difficulties in entering the offices. Specially, tourists those entering Nepal via the border point from India, found it difficult to wade through the waterlogged premises of the immigration and tourism offices.

“Nobody has made serious efforts to clear the mess resulted due to the downpour,” Yadavraj Pandey, chief, Immigration Office, said. “The municipal body failed to timely address the problem despite our repeated requests.”

The downpour has also flooded paddy fields in Madhbaliya, Tukuligarh, Padsari, Chiliya, Karahiya, Gangoliya, Basantapur and Bagaha VDCs, among others, in the district.
