Political leaders, doctors condemn the incident

KATHMANDU, MAY 28

Healthcare workers at Bheri Hospital in Banke are staging protests against the act of violence against the hospital staff on Thursday.

Demonstrations are being held in the hospital premises since Friday morning demanding swift action against the culprits that assaulted on-duty hospital staffers, yesterday.

On Thursday, a Covid-19 patient from Dang had succumbed to the highly contagious disease following which his kin had attacked the doctors and nurses, leaving them injured.

They further resorted to damaging the Covid-19 treatment unit and created utter chaos, amid which as many as four health-care staff had jumped from the first floor of the hospital building to save themselves. Many medical equipment were damaged.

Meanwhile, political party leaders have condemned the incident demanding action against those that caused the fiasco.

President of Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba, chair of CPN-Maoist Centre Pushpa Kamal Dahal have condemned the incident and appealed to the authorities to bring the guilty to books.

Many doctors have raised their concern across social networking platforms over such incidents becoming a norm in Nepal where kin of patients under treatment at hospitals resort to violent means on a frequent basis, blaming the hospitals.
