Bhutanese refugees live in constant fear
DAMAK: KB Khadka, former secretary of Beldangi Refugee camp, was killed by an unidentified gang last evening.
The incident has unleashed terror among the refugees housed in the Beldangi camp despite heavy security deployment there.
Pathibara-based Mechi Battalion of the Armed
Police Force said security had been heightened in the camp area in view
of the increasing criminal activities.
APF provides security to all the seven refugee camps in Jhapa and Morang districts.
However, murder rate
in the Damak-based camp is higher compared to
other refugee stations. Camp leader Shantiram Nepal was shot dead last year. Police said they were looking into the murder. Chairman of Bhutanese Refugee Repatriation Committee Dr Bhampa Rai, Human Right activist Dr KP Subedi along with journalists and civil society members attended Khadka’s funeral at local Ratuwa river today.
Chairperson of Bhutan-Nepal Peace Committee Lata Chapagain demanded stern action against
the culprits.
There have been reports of threats for refugees who want to be resettled in the third country such as USA. Some 20,000 refugees are said to have been resettled as per the plan.
