KATHMANDU, APRIL 11
Bibeksheel Sajha Party has nominated Samikchya Baskota to contest the much-hyped mayoral position of Kathmandu Metropolitan City for the upcoming local level election slated for May 13.
The party, which many see as an alternative force, said in a press release that it had decided to nominate Baskota for mayor and Kirti Tuladhar as deputy mayor of the largest local government in the country.
Bibeksheel Sajha Party, which has been winning the sentiments of youths, have nominated two women with the slogan, 'Let's hand over leadership of the country's capital to two honest, capable, and mature women; let's reestablish the glory of the capital'.
A decision to this effect was taken by the party's central work execution committee.
Baskota is Bibeksheel's former coordinator of Bagmati Province and a member at the party's central work execution committee. Baskota, 38, has done her Bachelor's in Law from Kathmandu School of Law and completed her Master's degree from St John University in the US.
Lawyer Baskota was involved in teaching profession for a few years. She was also engaged in family business, legal practice and at times involved in social causes after returning from the US. Baskota had contested for provincial lawmaker of Bagmati Province from constituency 1-A during the 2017 provincial election, where she managed to secure third position.
Similarly, vice mayor contestant Tuladhar, 62, has done Master's in Education and is a former national chair of JCI.
BSP emerged as a major alternative political force in the previous election as it was able to draw the attention of youths and non-political hardliners.
The party, however, has suffered intense internal political and ideological crisis lately.
