KATHMANDU, JULY 30

In view of deepening drinking water crisis due to climate change impacts and other reasons, the three tiers of the government have agreed to work together to regulate water use, conserve water sources and recharge the system.

A meeting of the coordination and sanitation thematic committee convened by the Ministry of Drinking Water in Kathmandu today took a decision to this effect for collaboration between the federal, province and local governments.

The drinking water ministers from all seven provinces, secretaries and division chiefs were present at the meeting. The meeting also decided to collect data of unfinished drinking water projects to ensure the supply of drinking water across the country, including in Madhes and Karnali provinces.

For data collection, all the provinces have pledged to extend their support and bring those projects into operation at the earliest.

Likewise, monitoring job will be beefed up to avoid duplication in the projects while coordination mechanism of the project section chiefs among all the thematic ministries will be formed and information will be shared every three months.
