Bid to ward off tuskers scares kids

JHAPA: Efforts of Khudunabari locals to drive wild elephants away has been having an adverse impact on their children. The villagers’ shouts and the din of instruments has been scaring the children out of their wits. The deafening sound to chase away the tuskers has become an everyday affair. “Most of the children in Khudunabari-7 are sick of bearing with the din,” local Ganga Lamichhane said. Some parents take their children away in the evenings. Padma Siwakoti said the beasts not only troubled them but also affected their children psychologically. “If a lasting solution is not worked out, we will have to move out for the sake of our lives and our children,” said Gauri Baelkoti.
