Bill to amend Special Court Act registered

Kathmandu, May 17:

The government today registered a bill in the parliament secretariat to amend the Special Court Act 2002 to pave way for appointment of more judges in the Special Court.

The government wants to appoint more judges in the Special Court and settle corruption cases on time, as per the spirit of the Act, but there are only three judges in the court.

As per the proposed provision of Clause 3 of the Act, there would be a three-judge bench to decide every case. The bill has also proposed that the salary and perks of the chairman judge and member judges of the Special Court would be on a par with Chief Judge and Judges of the Appellate Court. As per the amendment to Clause 6, at least two judges would decide while granting bail on any corruption case.

The chairman judge would work as the chief judge of the Special Court and he would assign

cases to other judges and the senior most member judge would perform the duty in absence of the chairman judge.
