Biplav-led CPN Maoist spokesperson 'Prakanda' arrested on criminal charge: Home Minister

CHITWAN: Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa has said that Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist (Biplav) spokesperson Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma, aka 'Prakanda' was arrested on the charge of criminal activities.

In a press meet jointly organised by Press Chautari and Press Centre Chitwan here at Bharatpur Airport today, Minister Thapa asserted that Prakanda was arrested in course of controlling the criminal activities.  He said, "One who violates the law is criminal." He claimed that Prakanda was wanted by the law for his involvement in extortion, coercion and plotting various violent activities. The Biplav-led CPN Maoist spokesperson was arrested from Dakshinkali, Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Minister Thapa also said that it was his responsibility to control the crime, no matter whoever involved in the crime. He remarked that government has also taken initiatives to invite all groups including Biplav-led CPN Maoist for talks to resolve any kind political issues.

The Home Minister claimed that government was getting success in controlling crimes witnessed lately.

On a different note, Minister Thapa refuted the rumour that police had committed fake encounter in the Kadaghari child abduction case. He added that the investigation into the gold smuggling case was underway and that the guilty would not be spared.

On another note, he shared that government was in a ready position to tackle the possible natural disasters.
