Biratnagar, January 18:

The Nepal Students’ Union (NSU) Morang district unit has called for an indefinite Biratnagar Bazaar bandh beginning today. The Nepal Students Union in a statement today said the bandh was called to press for release of their cadres who were arrested while protesting the hike in petroleum price yesterday.

The NSU cadres have forced the closure of the bazaar from 10 in the morning. There were reports of clashes between the police and the students who were forcing closure of shop.

The students blocked the traffic at Mahendra chowk at 12.30 pm by burning tyres after a rally along the thoroughfares of the bazaar. Meanwhile, almost all petrol pumps of the area remained shut today to protest yesterday’s vandalising of petrol pumps.
