Biratnagar tense over worker’s abduction
Biratnagar, April 10:
Workers of the Maoist-affiliated Trade Union today misbehaved with industrialist Shyam Sundar Sarada in Biratnagar. They have accused him of causing the abduction of driver Ram Kumar Rajdhani yesterday.
Police intervened when the workers tried to take Sarada around the Biratnagar bazaar after garlanding him with shoes. Six workers were injured in the incident. Sarada, a blood pressure patient, is undergoing treatment at the Koshi Zonal Hospital.
Rajdhani was abducted by an unidentified group following the direction of Sarada, proprietor of the Pioneer Cables Nanda Kishor Sarada said.
However, Morang SP Gopal Bhandari said Rajdhani was freed after two-and-a-half hours of his abduction.
The agitating workers today locked up Morang and Sunsari-based Pioneer Cables, Pioneer Wire, Pashupati Tubes, Hetaunda Iron and Pashupati Foods Industry, belonging to Sarada. Workers also obstructed plying of private vehicles in Biratnagar today.
They vandalised the Biratnagar-based office of the Pioneer Cables and also slightly damaged two cars parked on the office premises.
Meanwhile, an all-party meeting was called today at the Morang District Administration Office after the traders announced an agitation.
In the meeting the administration assured to provide security to the traders, said Morang Chief District Officer Modraj Dotel.
The traders called off their protest programme following an assurance from Chief District Officer Dotel.
