Birgunj Metropolis begins to demolish illegally built structures

BIRGUNJ: The Birgunj Metropolitan City directed the concerned officials to carry out demolition of illegally built building structures along railway road in BMC-7, on Sunday.

Mayor Bijaya Kumar Sarawagi directed the officials to carry out the work for road expansion project in the city.

A joint team comprising BMC senior officer Suman Shrestha and Secondary Towns Integrated Urban Environment Improvement Project director Sailendra Shrestha carried out demolition of structures from vacant area near Durga Hall to Shiva Temple in the area.

Earlier, the metropolis had urged the house owners to dismantle their structures on their own via various media. However, the locals turned their backs, compelling the metropolis to carry out the demolition.

Officer Suman Shrestha said, "In coordination with the ward police office Birta, BMC used dozers to dismantle illegally built structures in the area."

More than 50 illegally encroached structures have been demolished for the construction of underground sewage, informed project director Shrestha.

Meanwhile, the contractor company has been given site clearance and the work would be commenced from tomorrow, shared Shrestha.
