Keeping in mind the unprecedented rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, Birgunj Metropolis is all set to bring Temporary COVID Hospital and Isolation Centre, each with 100-beds, into operation from Friday.

A meeting of the District Disaster Management Centre (DDMC) has decided to run both the Temporary COVID Hospital and Isolation Centre in the metropolis.

"We decided to operate COVID hospital to facilitate our denizens during this difficult time as a majority of hospitals in Birgunj are over-burdened with patients in recent days," Mayor Bijaya Kumar Sarawagi said.

The hospital and isolation centre, which will be operated at Gopal Mandali Dharamsala in Ghadiarwa, will come into operation from tomorrow, Mayor Sarawagi shared.

"Medical support staff including doctors, nurses, paramedics will be mobilised in the hospital while oxygen will be kept standby in the isolation centre."

According to Mayor Sarawagi, "The patients isolating at homes will be admitted to the Temporary Hospital as they will be treated under the direct observation of doctors and other medical professionals." He further said the admitted patients will be provided free meal, oxygen, medicines, among others.

Meanwhile, the metropolis has launched ambulance services in response to the pandemic.
