Birgunj swamped in protest, district-wide bandh called in Parsa
The agitators have been burning tires around the clock-tower since the morning protesting against the government’s decision. The protesters have also vandalised vehicles in the process. A car (Ba 12 Cha 7365) was damaged by the agitators.
The main market of Birgunj remains closed today. Movement of vehicles has also been restricted in short as well as long routes. Educational institutions in the city that had decided to open on today's public holiday, remained closed due to the called bandh.
Amidst this, the Madhes based political parties burnt the effigy of the Prime Minister on Wednedsay evening citing that Birgunj was deprived from becoming the temporary provincial workstation of the province. Following this act, the struggle committee, comprising of Nepali Congress and CPN-UML among others, had called for the bandh.
Similarly, protests are going on in Doti, Dang, Kapilvastu, among others, regarding the same issue.
