Bodies of three buried under landslide found

Three more bodies of the people buried in landslides in Lingha and Lumpek of Gulmi’s Satyawati Rural Municipality were found today.

A joint search and rescue team comprising personnel of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Nepali Army and the locals found the bodies, which have been kept at the District Hospital for post-mortem.

Chief District Officer Yadunath Poudel of Gulmi confirmed the bodies were found. “While three of those missing were found dead today, one more, a minor, is still missing,” he said, identifying the missing as the one-and-half-year-old son of Pampha BK, who died in the landslide.

The persons whose bodies were retrieved today are identified as Tara BK, aged 9, Maya BK, aged 40, and Babi BK, 16.

“Search for the missing baby is on and we could confirm the details by tomorrow evening,” he said.

Of those who were buried in the landslides in the early hours on Tuesday, nine bodies, including Pampha BK’s, were found on Tuesday night itself. According to SP Kumar Basnet, the process of handing over the bodies is under way now after post-mortem.

Meanwhile, 10-year-old Karishma Taramu and Dhani Taramu, 13, who were injured in a separate landslide in Thulo Lumpek in Satyawati Rural Municipality yesterday, were airlifted to Kathmandu for treatment today. Their mother Til Kumari Taramu, 32, and sister Darshan Taramu,9, died in the landslide.

After providing relief to the landslide victims today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradip Gyawali took the injured to the capital with him in a chopper.

Displaced families are taking shelter in local schools, where they got relief today from the minister.
