Body exhumed after 3 years

Surdhan Rai was disposed after he was allegedly murdered following a dispute that broke out at Mamkha of Chisankhugadhi Rural Municipality on 23 April 2014. Surdhan’s body was exhumed three years later and the accused was arrested on November 24, 2017.
District Police Office, Okhaldhunga, had filed a murder case against the accused after exhuming Surdhan’s body.
DSP Arjun Timilsina at DPO Okhaldhunga said a team of experts from Department of Forensic Medicine had exhumed the buried body and conducted a DNA test. DSP Timilsina added that the DNA test proved the body Surdhan Rai’s and the post-mortem confirmed that he was murdered.
A team consisting of doctors Rijan Shrestha, Mani Maharjan, DSP Arjun Timilsina, among others, had exhumed the body on 2 November 2017. Police had arrested the murder accused Gaudhan Rai and he was remanded to custody. Another accused in the murder case is at large.
Gaudhan Rai and Jit Bahadur Rai had mercilessly thrashed Surdhan at a wedding ceremony after a dispute erupted over treatment of wedding guests. A critically injured Rai had died a day after the dispute. After the incident, neighbours said they had cremated Surdhan’s body with the family’s consensus.
