Body found in ex-major general’s house; Itahari locals turn violent

Sunsari, June 27

Former major general of Nepali Army and former CPN-Maoist Centre lawmaker Kumar Fudong was thrashed mercilessly by Itahari locals, after the body of a woman was found on the premises of his residence in Itahari, Sunsari, today.

The body of Ranju Thakuri, 30, was found a day earlier in a fish pond inside Fudong’s compound in Itahari.

The deceased was employed at Manshnat Resort operated at Fudong. Locals suspect she was murdered.

When the locals inquired about her death, Fudong retorted they go to court. Irked by his remarks, the locals swung into action.

A police team rescued Fudong, who sustained deep cuts on his head.

Demanding Fudong’s arrest, locals accused the police of being biased towards Fudong due to his wealth and power connections.

The deceased’s family and locals have demanded fair investigation into her death.

Locals also staged a chakkajam in Itahari chowk saying that police had sent the body for post-mortem without informing the family.

Family members said that they would not allow Ranju’s body to go through post-mortem without investigation.

Meanwhile, police said Ranju might have killed herself. Deputy Superintendent of Police Nareshraj Subedi said that they would initiate serious investigation into the incident.
