Bomb attack was meant to kill me, says former minister Sherdhan Rai

Bhojpur, November 15

CPN-UML politburo member and the party’s candidate for provincial assembly election from Bhojpur Constituency No 1 ‘Kha’ Sherdhan Rai today said the bomb attack on him yesterday was intended to kill him.

Speaking at a press meet organised by Media Centre Bhojpur in the district, former minister for information and communications Rai said, “The attack was launched not just to terrorise but to kill me.” He demanded a high-level probe into the incident and action against the guilty.

Saying the incident was pre-meditated, Rai claimed that the act was carried out by those who feared the left alliance’s prospects of clinching two-thirds majority in the upcoming provincial and parliamentary polls.

UML leader and the party’s provincial assembly election candidate from Bhojpur Constituency No 1 ‘Ka’ Rajendra Rai criticised the concerned security agency for failing to avert attacks on poll candidates.

CPN-Maoist Centre leader and the party’s parliamentary candidate from the district Sudan Kiranti said some ‘mafias’ could have been behind the attack.

A vehicle carrying former minister Rai and other candidates came under a bomb attack at Pikhuwakhola located on the border of the district, yesterday.

ASI Dilli Devkota, who was deployed for Rai’s security, sustained injury in the hand.

No one has claimed the responsibility for the attack so far.
