Boys carry disabled sister to school

Damauli, January 16

A physically challenged girl of Thaprek VDC, Tanahun is carried to her school by her two elder brothers every day.

Hom Maya Gurung is a Grade III student at Saraswati High School in Aarubot of the VDC. Her brothers Rekh Bahadur, an eighth grader, and Purna, a fifth grader, at the same school carry Hom Maya to and from the school, which is located at half-an-hour walking distance from their house.

Hom Maya cannot move her feet and hands since birth.

She expressed worry that she might not be able to complete her studies due to her disability. Hom Maya's mother Shree Maya said she could not treat her daughter due to the feeble financial condition of their family.

"I pray to god every day to send someone who will help in my daughter’s treatment," she said.

Head teacher at the school Muni Raj Gurung said Hom Maya was one of the brightest students in the school. "We try to make her feel comfortable at the school and help her with different activities," he said.

Meanwhile, JMT Automobiles Damauli under Mero Sathi Mero Bajaj programme offered education materials to Hom Maya on Monday.
