Breakaway Maoist group holding meet

Kailali, November 18:

CPN-Maoist Sanyukta Bidrohi Morcha, the breakaway faction of the CPN-Maoist, is holding its first extended conclave at a location in Kailali district that it does not want to disclose. It plans to establish an army called the National Red Guard within the month of Mangsir and rope in Adivasis, Janajatis and Dalits for the formation of a parallel government. Some 60 breakaway Maoists are attending the conclave that began three days ago. Maoist People’s Liberation Army former brigade commander Abhyas is also among them.

Talking to this daily at the conclave location, Morcha coordinator Laxman Singh Tharu “Roshan” said, “We will hold a roundtable and announce the parallel interim government within this month. That government will hold the constituent assembly polls within a year.”

Roshan said, “The proposed National Red Guard will be deployed for border security. All preparations are complete, even the uniforms are ready.” He added that the new army would consist of battle-hardened former PLA soldiers who faced action for the last 10 years during the conflict. Around 2,000 fighters have already been selected in the first phase of recruitment, he added.

Many PLA fighters stationed in their cantonments are in touch with the Morcha, said Roshan adding that scores had already come from there and joined the Morcha. Every day, PLA fighters are leaving their cantonments and trickling in to join the Morcha, said Roshan. The CA polls will not be held until the country is declared a republic, said Roshan, adding that the seven parties were trying to save the monarchy.

Accusing the CPN-Maoist of being pro-monarchy, Roshan claimed that Maoist leaders Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Dinanath Sharma were sent by Maoist chairman Prachanda to meet Dr Tulsi Giri at the latter’s residence where he agreed to give the Maoists Rs 5 lakh. Roshan said that the YCL was crammed to the gills with former royal court goons. Morcha’s Bagmati-Narayani zone coordinator Jan Lal Thapa said the conclave participants will be assigned specific but new responsibilities and directed to start a nationwide agitation for peace.
