Breakthrough on Sunday, claims Dahal

BIRATNAGAR: UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal today said that an agreement would be reached with the agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) by Sunday.

Talking to mediapersons at the Biratnagar Airport, he said that formal and informal talks were held with the UDMF on Friday in this regard and a dialogue was also held with Mahantha Thakur, Chairman of the Tarai Madhes Democratic Party as well.

The Maoist chief said that his party agreed on the matter of the dialogue to be held with the UDMF on Sunday.

He added that possibility of consensus on the Constitution Amendment Bill within his party and that his party had no objection on treating naturalised citizenships as per existing laws or the then Interim Constitution.

Dahal was on his way to attend a programme in Itahari, Sunsari.

Speaking on review on demarcation of state boundaries, he urged the UDMF to be flexible on the matter as the issue being complicated of this sort would be settled after forming a political or parliamentary committee within three months.

On a different note, the Maoist Chair said that India never suggested him to retain Nepal as a Hindu State or to switch to secularism.
