Namobuddha Municipality used a crane to demolish brick kilns in the municipality today.

Six brick kilns out of eight that were in operation in wards 2 and 3 of the municipality were razed to the ground. Brick kiln operators will demolish the remaining two.

The municipality office had notified all the operators to remove the brick kilns before the fiscal began.

The municipality had written to brick kiln operators of Bhakunde area, citing the past agreement reached with the municipality.

An eight-point agreement was struck for removal of eight brick kilns from Namobuddha Municipality at the meeting held among representatives of District Coordination Committee, Municipality representatives and brick kiln operators in January. Mayor Tanka Prasad Sharma said brick kiln operators were asked to implement the agreement in writing.

He added that the municipality had to take the action of removing the industries after the agreement was not implemented.

In the last fiscal, the municipality had stopped renewing licence of brick kilns.

The municipality had also urged the general public not to lease land for operation of brick kilns.
