Bridge over Dudhkoshi to come into use before polls

Khotang, November 17

Construction of a bridge at Jayaramghat on the border of Khotang and Okhaldhunga has reached its final stage eight years after the project started.

The bridge linking Jayaram of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-1 of Khotang with Thakle of Manebhanjyang Rural Municipality  in Okhaldhunga is a major entry point of

Khotang district. “It’s been a long time since the pillars of the bridge were erected. But now we are going to have the bridge completed soon,” said former lawmaker Panchkarna Rai.

“Now only the concretisation of slab between the bridge and the road towards Okhaldhunga, is remaining. We will complete the task in a few days,” said engineer Sitaram Karki. He added that the bridge would come into operation before the upcoming polls.

Hulas Engineering and Kalika Construction had been awarded the project. The project had to be completed within two years of commencement of the project.

Uddhav Ranamagar, manager of the project, said the project overshot the deadline as it had to hire technicians and purchase equipment from China. The estimated cost of the project is said to be Rs100 million.
