Briton donates for child education

KATHMANDU: A British marathoner has donated the proceeds he received for completing the Paris marathon in London for the welfare of deprived Nepali students on Tuesday.

The UK youth Timothy Powell Jackson revealed that the gloomy mental picture of conflict-ridden children of Nepal had been a great source of inspiration to finish the race. He handed a purse of $3,000 equivalent to Rs 237,300 to Basudev Neupane, Chairman of Samuhik Abhiyan, a social orgainisation advocating children’s educational rights.The 42.2 Km-long Paris marathon is considered a good platform for raising funds in the UK.

Organising a function, Samuhik Abhiyan felicitated him with a letter of appreciation for his efforts in ensuring educational rights of children in Nepal. The general secretary Bed Prasad Sapkota informed that the orgainsation has so far awarded scholarships to around 336 children of Ramechhap, Nawalparasi and Kathmandu districts.
