BHOJPUR: A person has been arrested for murdering his own sister on the day of 'Bhaitika' in Basikhora of Ram Prasad Rural Municipality in Bhojpur district.

The arrestee has been identified as local Suman Rai (34).

According to police, Rai has confessed to attacking his sister Sarita Rai (47) on November 9 after she scolded him for returning home late. It has been learnt that he had gone to roam the village after receiving tika from his three sisters Sarita, Yasodha and Rupa.

After returning home, he was enraged by his sister's reproach and struck her head with a wooden plank at around 6:00 pm, killing her on the spot, according to Information Officer Charitra Bikram Karki at District Police Office, Bhojpur.

Sarita had deep wounds on the left part of her head, police said.

Rai had fled the scene after the attack and was arrested after a week, informed Bhojpur police.

The arrested was presented before the District Court, Bhojpur and has been remanded for seven days in judicial custody for further investigation, police said.
