Buddhist convention concludes

BHAIRAHAWA: The Tenth National Buddhist Convention concluded with a six-point declaration in Lumbini today. The declaration has sought agents from the Buddhist community in the next census.

The declaration stated that the government should implement secularism without bias. The declaration also called for halting activities against Buddhism in monasteries, not allowing Lumbini to be developed as a business hub, no allowing sale of alcohol in the district and developing it as a spot for pilgrimage.

Meanwhile, stakeholders also demanded strong law against animal sacrifice and development of Lumbini.

Despite announcement, UCPN-Maoist chairman 'Prachanda' did not show up at the closing ceremony of the convention. The convention was inaugurated by President Dr Ram Baran Yadav yesterday.
