Budget allocated for dam construction along Khado River to control flooding

Rajbiraj, May 31

Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality in Saptari has allocated budget for construction of a dam along the Khado River to control flooding.

The rural municipality has set aside Rs 10 million for dam construction.

The construction work was obstructed earlier this year due to lack of funds.

Rural Municipality Chair Satis Kumar Singh said the rural municipality had set aside the amount to start construction works. “The river could not be controlled due to lack of sufficient fund,” he added that was why construction work could not be carried out earlier.

Singh said construction work would continue full swing after the amount was allocated.

Singh said wire fence, sacks and boulders were being used at many places along the dam. He said locals at Sakarpura, Belhi and Tilathi, among other places, would be safe from the danger of floods after the dam was constructed.

Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Kumar Jha at the rural municipality said public awareness campaign in relation to safety measures during construction of houses in risky areas would also be launched. He said that tree plantation would also be carried out along the dam construction areas.
