SURKHET, JUNE 12
Lawmakers of Karnali Province have demanded that the government to bring a budget that can address the issues of climate change adaptation and social inclusion.
At a meeting organised by the Social Development Committee of the Province Assembly here today, the Province Assembly members underscored the need for the budget to prioritise gender equality, disability and social inclusion.
The budget which is being brought for the fiscal 2022-23 on June 15 needs to focus on climate change, gender equality and disabled-friendly schemes.
Speaker of Karnali Province Assembly Raj Bahadur Shahi suggested that the budget address various dimensions of inclusion to wipe out social discrimination. "If we fail to embrace the climate change adaptation, we will see bigger crisis," he warned, adding that necessary policy and programmes were needed for it.
Deputy Speaker Pushpa Gharti (Bista) said it was difficult to sort out the issues created by the impacts of climate change. "Rivers and streams are getting dry in the rural areas. Random use of dozer has pulverised sources of water and aboriginal seeds and plants are vanishing."
