KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 23

Seven persons were killed and 25 injured when the bus they were on board met with an accident on the Pharping-Bhimfedi road section this afternoon.

The bus that usually plied the Banepa-Nepalthok road was heading towards Birgunj from Kathmandu with 32 passengers when it skidded off the road and fell some 50 metres at Jurikhel of Bhimfedi.

Pharping-Bhimfedi road is a short-cut route to reach Hetauda from Kathmandu, but has a lot of sharp bends which are difficult for larger vehicles to negotiate.

Only light and small vehicles, and a few minibuses, ply this route. The bus involved in today's accident would normally ply Banepa-Nepalthok route and the Pharping-Bhimfedi route was new for the driver.

Police said most of the passengers on board were Indian nationals. The injured are undergoing treatment at hospitals in Chitwan and Makawanpur. "We are yet to identify the deceased," said Makawanpur District Police Office Chief Bamdev Gautam.
