Death of student leader in accident sparks tension

POKHARA: Clashes have erupted between police and angry students in Pokhara over death of Nepal Student Union leader Bodh Raj Dhakal who died after a bus plated Ga 1 Kha 3836 welted him on Monday evening.

Dhakal, a resident of Aandhi Khola Rural Municiplaity in Syangja district was the Chair of Information Committee of Nepal Student Union wing based at Syangja Prithvi Narayan Campus. Dhakal succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara.

The agitated students have vandalised more than 20 buses around the campus area.

According to District Police Office (DPO), Kaski, Police fired few tear gas shells to contain the mob and have made 16 arrests. Few students along with five policemen have been injured in the clashes, the DPO informed.

Apart from bringing down the transportation services to a halt, particularly City Bus Service, the students have also been staging a demonstration demanding immediate release of those arrested.

According to Union leader Bhanu Dhakhal, the transportation halt will continue till immediate compensation is provided to the victim along with an investigation into the incident.

As of now, a talk between police administration, victim's kin and the bus owner is being held at the District Police Office, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Khadga Bahadur Khatri said.
