Bus knocks down two kids in Kailali

DHANGADHI: Two children succumbed to their injuries when a bicycle they were riding on was hit by a passenger bus at Sajha Chowk in Bardagoriya Rural Municipality-1 of Kailali district, on Friday.

The District Police Office, Kailali, identified the deceased as Aashu Chaudhary, 8, of Bardagoriya Rural Municipality-1 and Laxman Chaudhary, 12, of Ghodaghodi Municipality-8, in the district.

After the incident, both the injured kids were referred to Nepalgunj-based health facilities. However, Laxman breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a nursing home.

The other injured person Aashu, who was taken to Lucknow in India, succumbed to his injuries during the course of treatment there, DPO Spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Daksha Kumar Basnet, said.

Police have rounded up the bus driver and impounded the vehicle for further investigation. The arrested bus driver is detained at the Bauniya police post in the district, police informed.

Relatives of the victims' resorted to protest and obstructed vehicular movement at Bauniya road section along the East-West Highway also known as Mahendra Highyway today, DSP Basnet shared.

Area Police Office, Bauniya, In-charge Dhruba Bista said the victims' kith and kins have been obstructing vehicular movement along the highway.

An ill-fated bus (Na 7 Kha 6046) was heading to Kathmandu from Mahendranagar before striking the bicycle around 5 pm yesterday.

Meanwhile, further investigation is underway, police said.
