Bus services in Mechi come to a halt

The Mechi Bus Entrepreneurs’ Association today halted its services in Mechi zone from today, to protest the demand for excessive amount of compensation from the relatives of a man who was killed in an accident involving a bus affiliated to the association.

Buses affiliated to the association did not ply in Jhapa, Ilam, Panchthar and Taplejung districts today.

The association halted the services after the relatives of Yuddharaj Rai (24), a resident of Tandi of Morang district, who was ran over by a bus affiliated to the association while getting off from the bus in Urlabari of Morang on Wednesday, demanded Rs 1.5 million compensation.

The association said it was not able to provide more than Rs 95,000 to the victim’s family.

Meanwhile, police said a meeting between the relatives of the victim and the representatives of association has been called for tomorrow to resolve the dispute, according to inspector at Urlabari Area Police Office Lokdarshan Thapa.
