KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 1
Khadkaraj Shahi of the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party has emerged victorious in the by-election held today for the position of Chairperson of Ward No. 4, Tilagufa Rural Municipality, Kalikot.
Shahi garnered 143 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Naishobha Shahi of the CPN (Maoist Centre), who secured 115 votes, according to Chief Returning Officer Ananda Raj Pant.
Pant further reported the vote tally as follows: Ain Bahadur Shahi of the CPN (UML) received 78 votes, Pail Bahadur Shahi of the Nepali Congress obtained 49 votes, Gogan Bahadur Shahi of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party earned 17 votes, and Gagan Bam of the Rastriya Swatantra Party received five votes.
Of the 609 registered voters, 411 individuals (67.48%) participated in the election, including 217 women and 194 men.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of Par Bahadur Shahi, who had been elected as the Maoist Centre candidate during the local elections of 2079 BS but tragically lost his life in a landslide.
