CA polls will be held on time: EC

Biratnagar, January 8:

Election Commissioner Usha Nepal today said there was no doubt on holding the Constituent Assembly (CA) election within mid-June.

Speaking at a seminar of Election Officers of the eastern region here, Nepal said: “Holding the CA poll on time is the main agenda of all political parties and therefore, it will be held as scheduled,” she said.

Stating that the EC is prepared to hold the historical CA poll in the nation with its limited

resources, Nepal said security forces and civil society will have equal roles to play in holding the CA poll in a peaceful environment.

Addressing the programme, EC joint secretary Raj Man Singh said 176 computer operators in Morang district have been trained on how to enter voters’ data.

He added that the EC will also provide training to all Election Officers (EOs) and Assistant Election Officers (AEOs) soon.

Meanwhile, a report from Pokhara said Election Commissioner Nilkantha Upreti has said work related to the constituent assembly (CA) poll will be initiated after the promulgation of the interim constitution.

Inaugurating a two-day training of chiefs of district election offices of the western region today, Upreti said basic work related to the preparation for CA polls will be done by the time the interim constitution is promulgated.
