Cabinet appoints Jaya Bahadur Chand Nepal Police IG

KATHMANDU: The government of Sunday appointed DIG Jaya Bahadur Chand as the Inspector General of Nepal Police.

A Cabinet meeting held this morning made a decision to this effect, according to the PM's Secretariat.

Chand would succeed incumbent IG Upendra Kant Aryal, who is retiring this week after completing 30 years in the national police service.

Likewise, it appointed Singha Bahadur Shrestha as the Chief of Armed Police Force. He would succeed Durja Kumar Rai, who would also retire later this week.

Until the decision today, DIG Chand was the chief of the Narcotics Control Bureau of Nepal Police.

It has been learned that the ruling coalition leader, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, had piled pressure on the government to appoint Chand in the powerful position.

Else, he was behind DIG duo Nawa Raj Silwal and Prakash Aryal among candidates eligible to hold the position of Nepal Police chief.
