Campaign to end child marriage starts in Banke

NEPALGUNJ: The 'Golden Nepal Mega Campaign for Daughters' has kicked off in Banke district with an aim to contribute toward ending child marriage.

The campaign that was spearheaded by actress Rekha Thapa and Nar Bahadur Karki has been gradually gaining cooperation from civil society at local level as well.

Speaking at a programme organised in the district on Friday as part of the campaign, the school and college students of the district were sensitised on the problems and negative effects of child marriage on individual, family and society.

Talking to media persons following the event, campaigners Thapa and Karki said that they would run this campaign as collective efforts of all like-minded people by not taking support from any partner organisations.

They further shared that around 17 per cent girls in Nepal got married before the age of 17 while 10 per cent under the age 15.
